FAQs

Who can become a mentor?

We welcome volunteer mentors from all walks of life. If you are committed to supporting women in their journey toward employment and economic independence, you may be a great fit. You don’t need formal qualifications—just a willingness to share knowledge, offer guidance, and provide encouragement.

Key qualities of a mentor:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to provide guidance and encouragement
  • Willingness to commit to the mentoring program
  • Respect for confidentiality and ethical mentoring practices

Do I need previous mentoring experience to apply?

No, previous mentoring experience is not required . Many of our mentors are first-time volunteers who bring valuable life and work experiences to the program. We provide comprehensive training and ongoing support to ensure you feel confident in your role.

If you have experience in leadership, coaching, or supporting others in a professional or personal capacity, you already have skills that will be valuable in mentoring.

How much time do I need to commit?

Mentors are expected to commit to six months of mentoring, with approximately 1-2 hours per fortnight spent connecting with their mentee. These meetings can be flexible and scheduled based on mutual availability.

Additionally, mentors participate in:

  • A half-day training session before beginning
  • Check-ins every eight weeks for ongoing guidance

If you can commit to this timeframe and are passionate about making a difference, apply today.

How are mentors matched with jobseekers?

We take a personalised approach to matching mentors and jobseekers. Matches are made based on:

  • Shared interests and career goals
  • Industry experience and skills
  • The mentee’s specific employment challenges

Our team carefully reviews applications to ensure that both mentor and mentee benefit from the relationship.

Can I mentor remotely, or do I need to be in-person?

Mentoring can be in-person, virtual, or a mix of both , depending on your availability and the mentee’s needs. Many mentors choose video calls or phone check-ins , while others prefer face-to-face meetings in a public setting

The flexibility of the program allows you to provide valuable guidance in a way that suits your schedule.
