Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between a volunteer and a volunteer mentor?

All mentors are volunteers, but not all volunteers are mentors.

Volunteers contribute in different ways, such as supporting events, helping with outreach, or assisting in workshops.

Volunteer mentors, on the other hand, work one-on-one with jobseekers. They offer guidance and encouragement as the mentees navigate employment and career goals.

If you’re interested, sign up as a volunteer mentor today.

What is the role of a volunteer mentor?

A volunteer mentor provides practical and professional support to women impacted by the justice system as they work towards employment. Mentors

  • Inspire confidence by listening and offering career guidance.
  • Support jobseekers with resumes, interviews, and networking skills.
  • Build professional relationships that foster self-sufficiency.

Mentorship is about reliable guidance and consistent presence rather than fixing problems

What skills or experience do I need to volunteer?

You don’t need formal qualifications—just willingness, patience, and respect. Each role requires different strengths:

  • Mentors benefit from life experience, listening skills, and a non-judgmental approach.
  • Workshop facilitators may have expertise in career development or training.
  • Event and outreach volunteers contribute through organisation and community engagement.

  • Be respectful and non-judgmental—our work is built on dignity and trust.
  • Complete any necessary training—mentors and facilitators receive induction support.

Each role has different expectations, and we’ll discuss these with you before you start.

How much time do I need to commit?

Time commitments vary based on the role:

  • Mentors meet with their mentee 1-2 hours per fortnight for at least 6 months.
  • Workshop facilitators volunteer as needed for training sessions.
  • Event and outreach roles are flexible, depending on availability.

We understand that life gets busy. Let us know your schedule, and we’ll find a role that works for you.
